چکیده

This paper presents the design theory of conventional single-ended LNA and differential LNA based on CMOS technology. The design concepts give an useful indication to the design trade-offs associated with NF, gain and impedance matching. Four LNA’s have been designed using technological design rules of TSMC 0.18-μm CMOS technology and this work mainly proposed for IEEE 802.11a applications. With 1.8V supply voltage, the proposed LNA’s achieve a gain higher than 19dB, a noise figure less than 4dB and impedance matching less than -10dB at 5GHz frequency. The goal of this paper is to highlight the efficient LNA architecture for achieving simultaneous gain, noise and input matching at low supply voltage. The performance of all LNA’s are analysed and compared using Agilent’s Advanced Design System Electronic Design Automation tools.

Noise Figure analysis of S-band low noise amplifiers for IEEE 802.11 b/g and IEEE 802.15 for recent process technologies

The sensitivity of communications systems is limited by noise. Noise figure for low noise amplifier (LNA) design is highly relevant for LNA’s prima-facie function for adding as low as noise to be added to the desired signal amplification when simulated for system level configuration for varied frequencies ranges. In this paper the noise figure was analyzed as performance parameter for S-band fo...

A Hysteretic Two-phase Supply Modulator for Envelope Tracking RF Power Amplifiers

In this paper a two-phase supply modulator suitable for envelope tracking power amplifier is presented. The designed supply modulator has the linear assisted switching architecture. Two-phase architecture is used in order to reduce the output switching ripples. The proposed architecture uses hysteretic control instead of pulse width modulation (PWM) which significantly reduces the circuit compl...

A Low-Power Noise Reduction Technique for Broadband CMOS Low-Noise Amplifiers

A broadband input matching technique for low noise amplifiers (LNAs) is presented which exploits an active feedback network to achieve better noise performance. The presented matching scheme is compared to the common-gate and conventional noise canceling structures. The noise performance of the presented technique is similar to that of the conventional noise canceling technique with much less p...

Design Analysis and Comparative Study of Rf Receiver Front-ends in 0.18-μm Cmos

In this work, design and simulation results of two RF front-ends to be used in direct conversion receiver are presented. The first one uses dual CS differential LNA with folded mixer. The second one uses single-ended LNA with double balanced mixer. Single-ended and fully differential LNA’s provide gains of 16.3 dB and 28.75 dB at 2.4GHz, respectively. Noise Figure of these two LNA’s are 3.34 dB...
